When I got married I was at the very beginning on my chazara be’teshuva (becoming religious) process. Unfortunately, although not too revealing, my wedding dress was not modest. Today I see lots of modest wedding dresses I’m sure I would love to wear even before I became religious.

Wearing casual modest clothes is not always comfortable, we find nice shirt but we have to layer it to make it modest, wearing skirt, we have to sit in certain way, when it’s hot outside we prefer not to go out, wearing full headscarf sometimes give me headache after long day and those who wear wigs will tell you how uncomfortable and itchy it can be.
To begin with it is hard for us to find nice casual modest clothes. At retailers we have to go through everything in store just to find few suitable garments. Online, when looking for “frum fashion” or “modest clothes” most of the websites that shows are dedicated to sell modest fashion and mostly have very plain, simple and outdated clothes because they have to stick to the most strict modesty rules avoiding controversy that will ruin their reputation and sales.
So what usually happens? Each and every one of us becomes a fashion designer! We make that dress little longer with the closest fabric we could find, fix the sleeves on this top or layer it with base shirt, cut fabric for head cover to match the outfit and….. Tadaaa!!! what do we get? A very uncomfortable, ridicules outfit!
So, I’ve decided to search for lightweight, comfortable, casual modest clothes for everyday modest looks.
I’m always looking for new modest look. So many times I’ve seen someone who wear amazing outfit but knew if it was me I would have never dare to wear it. I know there are many women who feels the same. some don’t dare to wear bright colors others don’t dare to wear certain cuts etc. . For me the issue is with patterns. The styles that I find myself attracted to, are modern and fashionable and includes both Special patterns and solid colors. Unfortunately, I end up wearing only the solid colors.
Oh how I wish I would dare to wear everything I like….
Sometimes I’m brave enough to actually buy something bold but It ends hanged up in my closet with the ticket still attached… I plan when and how to wear it but when the time comes, I change back to what I’m used to, which is mostly solid colors and must be combined with black or dark color. I’m so square….
Here is a modest look I would defiantly ware. Emerald is trendy right now, this outfit is all solid colors and part of it is black – Perfect for me!
I would wear the patterned scarf as head cover (for some reason I don’t have problem with patterns on head covers).
I almost never dare to wear patterns, but I like it when I see it on other modest women.
So is it right for me to share with you patterned modest look that I would not ware myself?
In today’s modest fashion world, lots of modest religious women are upgrading fashionable items according to the laws of modesty, more and more religious fashionistas holds enviable modest wardrobe despite limitations.
There is a misconception about how modest religious women dress. People mistakenly think religious women have to wear layers on layers, 2 sizes up, and unfeminine outfits that were cut to meet the most strict modesty guidelines.
True, we cannot run around in pants, short skirts, or short sleeves, but to say we cannot be modest and fashion forward at the same time is a mistake.
In my opinion the modern orthodox women can look respectable, noble and fashionable.
I think it is much more attractive when there is something left to the imagination and modest dress in a way makes it more attractive.
